Looks Inspired by The Help

EmmaStone0901.jpg
For the last three weeks, The Help has been No. 1 at the box office. But it isn?t just the story that is grabbing people?s attention: It?s the fashions, too. Emma Stone, Bryce Dallas Howard and Jessica Chastain play women in Jackson, Miss., in the early 1960s. The style was ladylike with waist-accentuating cuts and vibrant floral prints. Now stores like J.Crew and Banana Republic are bringing back these retro trends, but with a modern twist.

Hilly Holbrock, played by Bryce Dallas Howard, wore dainty dresses with nipped waists and full skirts. Kate Spade has a dress almost identical to the one from the film and Carolee pearl earrings complete the look.

Emma Stone played Eugenia "Skeeter" Phelan, an aspiring journalist who dressed in tailored outfits that were modest and practical. Banana Republic actually came out with a limited edition capsule collection in collaboration with Mad Men inspired by the 1960s with suits similar to those from the film. This handheld bag from Aldo makes a stylish work tote. When Skeeter wasn't dressing for the office, she wore more feminine dresses. J.Crew created pieces like this Bonnie dress that reflects Skeeter?s style to a tee. A boxy cropped sweater from Boden brings the look together.

Jessica Chastain?s character, Celia Foote, loved Marilyn Monroe and dressed just like her in clingy, fitted ensembles that show off her hourglass shape. Asos has pencil skirts and ruffled blouses perfect for women who want to flaunt their figures. To really highlight the waist, a belt from Nine West is essential. Finally, check out Yochiny.com for earrings that add extra sass.
