'Transformers: Dark Of The Moon' Thrills Opening Night Crowds

Robot flick nabs $13.5 million from Tuesday-night screenings.

NEW YORK — The "Transformers: Dark of the Moon" red carpet in Times Square on Tuesday evening was packed with fans, stars and possibly a few Autobots eager to see the third installment of Michael Bay's explosive franchise. Theaters across the country were similarly swarming during evening screenings on opening night, with the alien robot flick nabbing $13.5 million in pre-midnight and midnight screenings, according to Deadline.com.

And though the atmosphere in front of the screening that MTV News attended was excited, several in the crowd were cautious about their hopes for the flick. "I've actually had lower expectations since the second one," Joseph Dornoff told us before he walked in. "So, I'm not expecting anything from it."

His friend, Patrick Farace, who has been anxiously waiting to see the third film since he heard of its release, also shared his hope to see "a better plot than the last one, amazing action. I'm excited to see Shockwave — he's the new villain." Judging by the reaction in the audience, "Dark of the Moon" surpassed many people's expectations. Fans clapped, cheered and possibly even shed a tear as the Autobots battled the evil Decepticons in their quest to bring home planet Cybertron to Earth. Although the third film featured the same basic good vs. evil fight peppered with romance as the first two, everything seemed to be bigger in this one.

The battles between Megatron, Sentinel Prime, Bumblebee and Optimus Prime were the clear fan favorite.

"[It's great] when Optimus comes by and just starts ripping everybody apart," said Wesley Arocho after the movie was done. "This action is made even more exciting by the fact that for the first time, audiences got to view it in 3-D."

"The 3-D was great. All the special effects were great," Carlos Barrozi added.

"It was better than past movies. It didn't hurt your eyes. You were able to watch it without wanting to take your glasses off," said Briana Brink-Rivera. Two friends, Mustafa Ahmed and Munawar Ali Mohd, even went so far as to say seeing the epic Chicago action in 3-D was "a dream come true."

Even Sam Witwicky's (Shia LaBeouf) love life seemed to be hotter in the third film. When asked which of Sam's love interests they preferred, newcomer Rosie Huntington-Whiteley or former franchise hottie Megan Fox, brothers Brandon and Bryce McCright responded simultaneously, "Rosie!"

If the response on opening night is any indication, Bay and company can rest assured that they've redeemed themselves after "Revenge of the Fallen." Now, the only question that remains is: Can we expect a fourth?

'Transformers': Can Series Go On Without LaBeouf And Bay?

'If they're going to do it again, they have to attempt it with somebody else,' LaBeouf told MTV News
By Josh Wigler

Ask the stars, ask the critics, ask your friends: It looks like the universal consensus is that "Transformers: Dark of the Moon" is the very best of the bunch. But it also might be the very last of the bunch, at least for director Michael Bay and leading man Shia LaBeouf, who have both announced their intentions to depart the series following this latest battle between the Autobots and Decepticons.

"If they're going to do it again, they have to attempt it with somebody else," LaBeouf told MTV News at the New York City premiere of "Dark of the Moon" on Tuesday night, reaffirming his plans to leave Sam Witwicky right where he is. "We took it to the limit. We tried as hard as we could. I don't think we can turn in a movie that's better than this, really."

The question has been raised before: Can "Transformers" continue without Bay and Shia? From producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura's perspective, it would certainly be tricky. "You can't replace them. You'd have to go about doing it another way, that's what you'd do," he said.

"Another way" is exactly the idea Shia had in mind for how to continue moving the multimedia franchise forward without him and Bay at the helm. "If you want to keep making more 'Transformers' movies, you need another anchor," he explained. "It's different than, like, 'Indiana Jones.' Harrison Ford has an age. He's human. Optimus Prime is going to be Optimus Prime forever. He's never going to grow older. So you just need another human anchor. I think you just need to find it. There's tons of great actors."

But Shia says he won't be that anchor anymore.

"I think I've taken Sam as far as I can, creatively," he said. "We set out to make a certain thing. We wanted to make the best movie we could, and we had three shots at it. On the third one, we did it. I don't think that either one of us wants to return to it and attempt it when it was this good."

That's LaBeouf's perspective, at least, but what does Bay think? When we caught up with him on the red carpet, the Master of Bayhem reflected on not just what the series has meant to him, but what it's meant for fans across the globe.

"I gotta tell ya. It's been a touching moment for me. It's bittersweet for me, having done this franchise for six years," said Bay. "Today we got an urgent call from Make-a-Wish. They said, 'There's a little boy in Texas. He's got two days. He wants to see 'Transformers 3.' So we made a special print. We're flying [the copy] to his hospital room right now in Texas so he can see it. That's the power of these movies. That touches your core, you know?"

Still, for the moment, Bay is busy enough "birthing this one now. The movie's coming out tonight. Let's just enjoy this one!"

It certainly seems as though the fans are following those orders, as are the film's castmembers. In fact, it's one actor in particular who feels the most confident that Bay and LaBeouf aren't done with "Transformers."

"Let me tell you, I'm going to see what I can do. Leave it with me," grinned Rosie Huntington-Whiteley. "The boys listen to me. I've got it under control, people — don't worry. Who knows [if there'll be a fourth film], but you can never say never."

Check out everything we've got on "Transformers: Dark of the Moon."

Beyonce's 4 Shoots To #1 Debut

Singer expected to move 300,000 units of her fourth album, according to Billboard.
By Jocelyn Vena

It looks like 4 is going to be #1. Beyoncé's latest effort is projected to debut at #1 on the albums chart after selling an estimated 300,000 units in its first week, according to Billboard.

Those sales would place her in the middle of the pack of fellow divas with albums out this year. Britney Spears' Femme Fatale sold 276,000 records her first week; Lady Gaga's Born This Way sold an impressive 1.1 million records, and Adele's 21 sold 352,000 records right out the gate (though it's had much more staying power than the others).

The aptly titled fourth release from B would also be her fourth #1 album debut, though the numbers will likely be below her previous first-week sales. I Am ... Sasha Fierce sold 482,000 in its first week, in 2008, and her sophomore effort, 2006's B'Day, sold 541,000 albums. Her debut solo effort, Dangerously in Love, debuted with 317,000 units sold.

Fans will go behind the scenes of the making of 4 in an MTV special, "Beyoncé: Year of 4," airing Thursday night (June 30). In the half-hour doc, Beyoncé talks about taking some time off before making the record, which features studio work from The-Dream, Kanye West and Andre 3000.

"My life was award shows and tour buses and hotels, and it kind of goes by so fast ... I couldn't even hear it anymore," she says of her whirlwind schedule. "I'm just thinking about the next shoot ... the next video ... the next tour ... I never even realized I needed a year off. And I never realized I don't know how to take a year off."

Tune in to "Beyoncé: Year of 4," airing Thursday, June 30, at 7 p.m. ET/PT on MTV and BET, and at 7:30 p.m. on VH1 and Palladia. Encore presentations follow on MTV.com, MTV Hits and MTV Jams.

Q-Tip's Documentary Comments Confuse Michael Rapaport

'It was confusing to me,' director tells 'RapFix Live' in response to the MC encouraging rappers to tell their own stories.
By Rob Markman, with reporting by Kara Warner

Despite all of the controversy surrounding "Beats, Rhymes & Life: The Travels of a Tribe Called Quest," ATCQ's Q-Tip has encouraged fans to see the documentary, which is now playing in select cities.

The Queens MC has bucked at how the group was portrayed in the film, and during a visit to "RapFix Live" this past March, Tip encouraged other rap artists to tell their own stories.

The doc's director, Michael Rapaport, who has weathered criticism from Tip in the past, appeared on "RapFix Live" Wednesday (June 29) and admitted that he was confused by the rapper's comments on the live stream.

"We crack the mold, we break the rules. We define this culture that we in right now, this Western culture, the sh-- that's moving around the world, whether it be Tribe to Lil Wayne, Drake to Kanye, I don't care," Q-Tip said to Sway back in March. "This hip-hop sh-- is our sh--, and when we start moving in, control your stories, man. Tell your stories — that's what I learned from this."

"I don't understand what [Q-Tip] was talkin' about with 'telling their own stories,' " Rapaport told MTV News. "I don't know if it was like, 'Hip-hop artists should direct movies about hip-hop artists,' or maybe he was saying, 'I should direct a documentary about myself,' which has never been done before."

Rapaport argued that a filmmaker doesn't need to be a hip-hop artist to effectively document the culture on film and used "Goodfellas" and "Casino" director Martin Scorsese to illustrate his point. "Martin Scorsese does movies about gangsters, and if you've ever been around Martin Scorsese, he's the furthest thing from a gangster, so I don't understand the thing about 'tell the stories yourself,' " Rapaport said, sounding perplexed.

"I don't know if he meant, 'We're from hip-hop, it should be a hip-hop director' or — I don't know who would go under the auspices of being a hip-hop director. Or if it was a racial thing like, 'We're black and shouldn't have a white director.' It was confusing to me."

The filmmaker did acknowledge that despite the back and forth between him and the rapper, he did appreciate Q-Tip asking fans to support the movie. Whether the two can reconcile is up in the air. According to Rapaport, the last time he heard from Tip was through email and it seems that the message was less than encouraging. "I haven't talked to Q-Tip," he said. "Last time I heard from Q-Tip he sent me an email and he said, 'All you gotta do is stay white and be privileged.' "

What do you think of Michael Rapaport's response to Q-Tip on "RapFix Live"? Sound off in the comments.

Rosie Huntington-Whiteley Thought She Bombed 'Transformers' Audition

'Dark of the Moon' director Michael Bay called and said, 'You're the girl,' the first-time actress tells MTV News.
By Kara Warner, with reporting by Josh Horowitz

One of the many intriguing stories to emerge from the production and release of "Transformers: Dark of the Moon" is the casting of new leading lady and first-time actress Rosie Huntington-Whiteley. In addition to making headlines for replacing Megan Fox as the new "Transformers" "It" girl, the fact that Whiteley comes to Hollywood from the equally glamorous world of modeling has only added to her appeal.

The Victoria's Secret model's acting abilities have already been touted and praised by her co-stars, Shia LaBeouf and Tyrese Gibson, but when MTV News caught up with the newbie, we asked her about the intensity of the audition process.

"I went to the audition and really I knew nothing about the role," Whiteley said. "No one had said anything; it was just a role in 'Transformers,' so I kind of thought it would be an extra part or a cameo or something. I went in a bit blind and also, it was my first-ever audition. I went in completely not knowing what I was doing. I left feeling not confident."

Whiteley didn't have long to wallow in her uncertainty, because a couple days after that audition, director Michael Bay phoned her directly. "He was like, 'Yeah, you're the girl,' " she recalled.

Before landing the big-screen role, Whiteley had dabbled in some amateur acting via school plays and a short film for lingerie company Agent Provocateur, but "Dark of the Moon" was definitely her first real gig.

So has she been bitten by the acting bug?

"Yeah, I've been so lucky because doing this film, I got to try a little bit of everything," she said. "There's something for everyone in it: There's the romance, the comedy, the drama, the action, there's the special effects."

But as to whether we'll see her back on the big screen soon, Whiteley wasn't so sure. "I'm really hoping to do another movie," she said. "I'm working toward that, although I very much hope to stay in the fashion industry; it's my first love. We'll see what happens. I've got no idea."

Check out everything we've got on "Transformers: Dark of the Moon."

Jada Pinkett Smith Covers Redbook August 2011

She's part of one of the most famous families in Tinseltown, and Jada Pinkett Smith covers the August 2011 issue of Redbook magazine.

Set to hit newsstands on Tuesday, July 12th, the Hollywood mommy gets honest and emotional about motherhood, raising a family of superstars, her "excruciating choices," and her many blessings.

Highlights from Jada's interview with Redbook are as follows. For more, be sure to visit Redbook!

On putting family first: "I had to make choices. Believe me, I would still be on the road with my band, Wicked Wisdom, and making as many movies as I can a year, and doing all sorts of other things if I didn't have the responsibility of a family. But I have children with their own talents and dreams, and I know I have to be standing next to them for that journey."

On giving up on her rockstar dreams: ?It was excruciating, completely excruciating. When Jaden was auditioning for The Pursuit of Happyness, my band had just gotten an offer to open for Guns N? Roses in Europe. For me, that was unbelievable. But the choice was: I could be a rock star, or I could be on the set with my son to make sure he was healthy and happy. We all know how that story ended!?

On raising her kids in Hollywood: "Let me tell you what I fear most: Them growing up like I did, in a house with drugs in a war zone, where if I walked out my door I could be shot. Hollywood ain't nothing compared to that! Growing up in the streets of Baltimore, or the streets of Philly where Will grew up ? I'd rather have my kids here. It still makes me nervous that they're part of something that isn't totally real, but it's up to Will and me to teach them what's real and what's not."

Christina Aguilera is "Under Pressure" on ?The Voice?

Last night?s ?The Voice? season finale Part One was quite the audio/visual ride, and Christina Aguilera brought her A-game once again.

The ?Ain?t No Other Man? songstress joined forces with Adam Levine, Cee Lo Green, and Blake Shelton for a killer rendition of Queen?s ?Under Pressure.?

And it seems that the coaches love Queen, as earlier this month they performed a medley of the classic rock band?s songs.

The eight finalists of the evening were Beverly McClellan, Vicci Martinez, Javier Jolon, Dia Frampton, Frenchie Davis, Casey Weston, Nakia, and Xenia.

Bachelorette Ashley Hebert to Bentley "F*** You!"

Bachelorette Ashley Hebert to Bentley "F*** You!"

If you watch ABC's The Bachelorette (Mondays, 8 p.m. ET) then you've probably heard more than you care to about Bentley Williams -- the pseudo-suitor (and frontrunner for Ashley Hebert's heart) who abruptly left the show on June 6th. Well, he was back on last night's episode and Ashley had some words for him -- "F*** you!"

For those out of the loop: Bentley told Ashley that he felt obligated to return to his young daughter, and then told the cameras that she wasn't his type, and that he "would rather be swimming in pee than trying to plan a wedding with her." From the beginning of the season, Williams was very open about wishing that Emily Maynard -- the winner of The Bachelor, season 15 -- would have been chosen as the Bachelorette.

Never ones to miss an opportunity for awkwardness, three weeks after Bentley's departure, the Bachelorette producers flew him to Hong Kong, where he surprised a pining Hebert with a visit that aired on last night's episode. The two then had a face-to-face meeting supposedly meant to give Hebert closure (but actually meant -- let's be honest -- to give the promo department something juicy to hype).

Before the meeting, a hopeful Hebert admitted, "I still feel the same way I did when he left: really excited if there was potential or if he felt the same way." But soon enough, it was clear: He felt the same way.

"I implore you to do all you can to see what you have here, I guess," he said.

"So this is our period," she replied, to which he said, "Maybe we should call it a period."

Hebert proceeded to angrily chew him out for leading her on, and challenged his motives for the final sit-down. "So you came all the way here, when you could have just talked to me on the phone?" But the overall effect was that of a conversation crafted for the cameras. Hebert knew that she had to give him a piece of her mind, and she dutifully did so. Later, after he'd gone, Hebert went further. "Bentley, if you're watching this, F*** you," she told the cameras. "I'm done with you."

Keep in mind: Ashley sent Bentley that message without even seeing what he had really been saying behind her back to the cameras. We have a feeling that if he actually shows up to the reunion show, Ashley dishing a couple of curse words will only be the tip of the iceberg. We'll be watching!

Drake Goes Home Alone In 'Marvins Room' Video

Drizzy gets rejected and drowns his sorrows in brand-new clip.
By Rob Markman

Drake (file)
Photo: Mike Coppola/ Getty Images

It's one thing to hear Drake sing about lost love and rejection, but to see it is a different story entirely. In the video for "Marvins Room," Drake tosses back drinks at a party full of women and goes home alone, while a drunk-dial conversation coupled with his regretful lyrics seem to explain why he failed to close the deal.

The clip, which was released at 3:46 a.m. on Drizzy's October's Very Own blog, starts off with a woman dressed in a T-shirt and panties on the phone, talking about her night, in which she hopped from club to club. "Hello, yeah I just walked in," she says pacing her living room before lying down on a leather couch. Drake sits on the other end of the line, seated in the back of his Maybach, listening.

The beat drops and Drake starts his first verse seated at the bar in a lounge. Partygoers mingle and dance around him, but the Toronto native throws back shot after shot to chase the bottles of beer that he sips on. Clearly inebriated, Drizzy first flirts with a girl standing at the bar. After he whispers something in her ear, the young lady walks off uninterested as the rapper swivels his head to watch her strut away.

Undeterred, Drizzy hits the dance floor pushing up on a second female, who also blocks his advances. The scene cuts back to the pants-less cutie who is still sprawled out on her couch breathing into the phone, "Are you drunk right now?"

The answer is clearly yes: Drake's drunken state is visually depicted by a spinning camera that moves in and out of focus as he makes his way across the dance floor to the bathroom where he continues to croon. The track then slows down to a crawl, repeating Drake's refrain, "I'm just sayin' you can do better."

Maybe she can, but not tonight. The video snaps back, the song's pitch is corrected, the video comes to a close, and Drake tells the woman on the phone, "You're not gonna come? Guess I'm about to just kick it here then." Cue the cold shower.

'Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol' Trailer Premieres

First sneak peek at Tom Cruise's fourth 'Mission' teases death-defying stunts.
By Kara Warner

If there is one thing we can count on from Tom Cruise in a "Mission: Impossible" movie, it is mind-blowing action and stunt sequences. From his first foray into the spy-tastic world of Ethan Hunt to his fourth, the upcoming "Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol," Cruise has been one-upping himself in the stunt category. And judging from the first official trailer, which was released Tuesday evening (June 28), his work on the fourth "Mission," directed by "The Incredibles" helmer Brad Bird, is no exception.

The trailer opens with the ominous words of Tom Wilkinson, whose character name we have yet to learn, essentially laying out the nuts and bolts of the plot.

"An hour ago, a bomb blew up the Kremlin," he says, as footage of the Kremlin blowing up appear onscreen. "The president has initiated Ghost Protocol, the entire IMF has been disavowed," he explains of Ethan Hunt's (Tom Cruise) spy organization. "Now, I've been ordered to take you to Washington where they will hang the Kremlin bombing on you and your team, unless you were to escape after assaulting Brandt and me," says Wilkinson, shown seated in a car with Brandt (played by Jeremy Renner) and Hunt. "But if any of your team is caught, they'll be branded as terrorists."

"So what happens now?" Hunt asks.

"Your mission, should you choose to accept it," Wilkinson begins, recalling the series' famous line before being cut off so he won't spoil the plot entirely (although, if were to guess, the mission is probably to prove his team's innocence in the Kremlin bombing). His words are followed by a series of quick cuts that showcase and introduce the various castmembers, potential villains, etc. Renner as Brandt, Paula Patton, a serious-looking Josh Holloway, Cruise as Hunt in a series of wardrobe changes ranging from dapper formal wear to more rugged leather.

Then we see snippets of those famous Cruise-brand action sequences: car chases, underwater escapes, machine-gun fire, hand-to-hand combat, lots of running, more fighting and martial arts, more running, and plenty of spy-associated breaking and entering, which all leads up to a potential character reveal about Brandt.

"Who are you really, Brandt?" Hunt asks, in a scene where the two characters apparently come to blows.

"We all have our secrets," Brandt responds. "Don't we, Ethan?"

Cue the famous bars of Lalo Schrifin's "Theme From Mission: Impossible," which plays over Hunt looking out over Dubai, standing on the world's tallest building, the Burj Khalifa. This is followed by a quick cut to a previous scene wherein tech master Benji Dunn (played by Simon Pegg) shows Hunt how to use a pair of fancy gadget gloves, which we soon see help him scale the Burj.

"You're not going to make it!" Brandt yells to Hunt, who is climbing and jumping up and around the side of the building.

"You're not helping," Hunt says, before the final shot, which shows the superspy repelling away from the Burj with a rope, which he loses midair and looks to plummet to the ground. Fade to black and the film's official titling.

Cruise's wife, Katie Holmes, told MTV News recently that she was privy to a sneak peek of the film and that it's "amazing." "The movie is going to be very cool and intense and the best 'Mission' yet."

First-time live-action director Bird echoed Holmes' sentiments, adding that Cruise did a lot of the craziest and most dangerous stunts himself.

"It's big and it is crazy," he said. "I think the craziest thing is that [the stunts] are real they're not digital. That's Tom Cruise on the tallest building in the world, he's doing all that stuff," Bird said of Cruise's death-defying stunts. "People won't believe it, but we shot it in IMAX so it's there for everyone to see."

Daniel Radcliffe Dedicates Trevor Project Hero Award To 'Real Heroes'

'Harry Potter' star earns honor for being an inspiration to LGBT youth.

Daniel Radcliffe took a break from his successful turn in Broadway's "How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying" and the press tour for the final "Harry Potter" film to accept the Trevor Project's Hero Award at Monday night's Trevor LIVE gala in New York.

"The fact that I'm able to help with something like this makes me very, very proud," Radcliffe told MTV News at the event. "It's a huge honor, and it's lovely of them to give it to me. I'll say it again later, but the real heroes are the people who are staffing those call centers and picking up the phones saving lives every single day."

The Trevor Project Hero Award recognizes individuals who serve as an inspiration to lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and questioning youth. Previous recipients of the prize include Nathan Lane, Vanessa Williams and Oscar-winning screenwriter Dustin Lance Black ("Milk").

Founded by the filmmakers of the Oscar-winning 1994 short film "Trevor," the Trevor Project is a nonprofit organization that offers support to sexual minority youth. The group's 24-hour suicide prevention hotline, available at (866) 4-U-TREVOR (488-7386), offers those experiencing emotional difficulty dealing with their sexuality someone to talk to and endeavors to foster safe and inclusive environments in homes and schools.

"It's incredibly important because all over the country there are many young people who are going through incredibly difficult times coming out or accepting who they are or coming to terms with who they are," Radcliffe said of the Trevor Project. "And it's wonderful that compassionate, brave people work at the Trevor Project and are ready to take calls 24 hours a day to help those people."

Radcliffe has been involved with the Trevor Project since 2009, appearing in public service announcements for the group's prevention hotline and speaking out in support of LGBT youth. Radcliffe has called his work with the Trevor Project "one of the most important, if not the most important, thing that I'm associated with."

Last year, the actor told MTV News that supporting gay rights is "something I've always been quite passionate about ... and now I am in a position where I can help an amazing thing like the Trevor Project."

Asked about the recent passage of marriage-equality legislation in New York, Radcliffe said, "The more widespread equality is the more young people growing up [who can] look to an older generation and see gay men getting married and having families, the more it just looks like a normal part of life.

"The more it becomes something run-of-the mill and ordinary, in a way, the better," Radcliffe added. "Because then there's no reason they should grow up feeling that they're in any way different or that their difference should separate them from their peers."

The politically aware actor is currently promoting "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2," the eighth and final "Potter" film. 'Bad Teacher': The Reviews Are In!

Critics grade Cameron Diaz's irreverent flick as it enters a mixed bag of summer comedies.
By Eric Ditzian

Cameron Diaz in "Bad Teacher"

As "Bad Teacher" opens this weekend, it joins a mixed bag of summer comedies. While we're still giggling over certain "Bridesmaids" moments and can't wait to take in a second viewing on DVD, "The Hangover Part II" left us reaching for a copy of the original film to remind us why we were so taken with that boozy cinematic bunch. But hey, the second "Hangover" has grossed almost $500 million worldwide, so what the heck do we know?

The Cameron Diaz-starring laugher, according to the critics, falls closer to the letdown that was the second "Hangover" than the revelatory "Bridesmaids." Reviewers have criticized the film for plot holes galore and poor character development, even as most have admitted it delivers a hefty helping of laughs. Read on for a deeper dive into the critics' take on "Bad Teacher."

The Story
"Director Jake Kasdan coaxes some laughs out of the film, but only Jason Segel, as a cynical gym teacher, seems like a real person instead of a caricature. Everyone else seems like they're trying just a touch too hard. Elizabeth Halsey (Diaz) gets dumped by the rich guy she was going to marry for money, forcing her to come back for another year of teaching junior-high English. But she is not without goals; her immediate one is to figure out how to get enough money to pay for breast implants, which she thinks will help her more easily land a replacement sugar daddy. The operation is tough to afford on a teacher's salary, of course. But one day handsome Scott Delacorte (Timberlake), the heir to a watch-making fortune, shows up as a substitute teacher, giving Elizabeth a suitable target." — Bill Goodykoontz, Arizona Republic

The Performances
"The movie, of course, belongs to Diaz. She's always projected a sort of girlfriend-gone-wild sass that suggested she's a hell of a lot of fun after a couple of mango margaritas; 'Bad Teacher' is one of the few films that's allowed her to show that. And not only does she show it, she flaunts it, from a wardrobe that's tighter than next year's school budget to a vocabulary that's definitely not on any standardized test. But she's not alone. The wonderful Lucy Punch — the gold digger from 'You Will Meet a Tall Dark Stranger' — is a nagging toothache as a too-perfect teacher. Comic actors such as Thomas Lennon drop by for brief but marvelous scenes, and Jason Segal is a menschy gym teacher. Justin Timberlake, however, remains too cool to really commit to his oddball character, a substitute teacher that the man-hungry Diaz fixates on." — Stephen Whitty, New Jersey Star-Ledger

The 'Bad' Comparisons
" 'Bad Teacher' wants to be 'Bad Santa' but it's afraid to go as far as Billy Bob Thornton's gleeful middle finger to holidays and proper treatment of children. So it ends up trapped in a nowhere middle-ground, somewhere between 'Bad Santa' and the equally hilarious but family friendly Jack Black movie 'School of Rock.' Both of those movies had somewhere to go and a way to get there, but 'Bad Teacher' just goes and doesn't really seem to know where it's going. The script has its moments and the cast has a few too." — Josh Tyler, Cinema Blend

The Missteps
"The main problem with 'Bad Teacher' is that it's really just one joke, which is stretched further than the uneven script by Gene Stupnitsky and Lee Eisenberg (vets of TV's 'The Office') will permit. Jake Kasdan's flat direction doesn't help. ... 'Bad Teacher' has its amusing moments, but also many where you can't help wondering about the comedic choices. If you're going to have the hung-over instructor getting her young charges to watch movies all day, aren't there funnier picks than just a succession of teacher-themed movies? And if you've already decided your film is going to get an American 'R' rating — the profanity alone guarantees that — then why not take a few more risks with your comedy?" — Peter Howell, Toronto Star

The Final Word
" 'Bad Teacher' does not always connect with every joke, and there's one character in particular that seems to have been abandoned by the screenwriters midstream, but when the film works, it contains some wicked belly laughs, and I'll give Cameron Diaz credit for this: she seems delighted to play a total a--hole." — Drew McWeeny, HitFix

Two is ?Enough? for Nick Cannon and Mariah Carey

NickMariah0622.jpg
Mariah Carey?s better half couldn?t wait to share his baby joy at the gala opening of the new Mercedes-Benz flagship dealership in Manhattan. ?Their personality traits are definitely coming out!? Nick Cannon, 30, tells In Touch. ?Just getting to see my daughter be a little diva early on, it?s cool! My son is chill like me.?

The proud dad already has nicknames for the twins. ?It?s Roc and Roe for Moroccan and Monroe,? Nick laughed. But Nick admitted that although life is different since his bundles of joy arrived on April 30, he?s up to the challenge. ?I never slept before. I?m kind of cut out for fatherhood because I never sleep,? he said. ?So now, instead of doing other stuff, I?m with my kids. Other than that, definitely more sensitive to my moves because I?m responsible for people now!?

And Nick couldn?t be prouder of his pop superstar wife. ?She?s just supermom right now,? he added. ?She has such a different perspective on what being a woman is all about.?

Right now, the new parents are savoring every moment with their babies. ?Anytime they cry, you always want them to stop crying,? Nick tells In Touch. ?But now they?re smiling. So that just melts your heart immediately.?

But don?t expect these two showbiz icons to be pushy showbiz parents. When asked if he wanted his kids in showbiz, the protective dad was emphatic: ?No! There are so many other aspiring things to be in life. I always think we put too much emphasis on the entertainment world. I would love it if my children were doctors.?

And do the new parents want more kids? ?I do. Mariah doesn?t!? Nick said. ?She was like, ?That?s it! I?m done! Two at once!? It was an intense pregnancy to carry twins around. She [was] a trooper.?

And is Mariah on the mend? ?She?s feeling amazing now. She?s back on her feet doing her thing.?

When the "G.I. Joe" sequel gets under way, fans will see an almost all-new cast that not only includes Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson but could also feature Wu-Tang Clan rapper/producer-turned-actor RZA.

The beatmeister will play a martial arts expert named the Blind Master, who once trained Joe commandos Snake Eyes and Jinx (Elodie Yung of "The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo"), according to The Hollywood Reporter.

In addition to returning star Channing Tatum, another potential new face will be D.J. Cotrona, currently appearing on the TV show "Detroit 1-8-7." Both RZA and Cotrona are in negotiations to join the movie, which is being directed by Jon Chu ("Justin Bieber: Never Say Never").

" 'Joe' is something I've loved since I was a kid," Chu confessed to MTV News when word of his possible involvement first leaked earlier this year. "My era was 'Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles,' 'G.I. Joe' and 'Transformers.' When 'Joe' changed their theme song from the old-style 'Go Joe!' to 'Got to get tough, go Joe!' that was the era I was in. Those are the fun, glory years that I remember."

Cotrona is slated to play a character named Flint, one of Joe's soldiers best known from the 1980s comics for his signature shotgun and beret.

The mainstream flick is one of the most high-profile popcorn movie roles to date for RZA, who has previously appeared in films such as "Due Date," "Kill Bill," "Funny People" and "American Gangster." He recently wrapped work directing the martial arts movie "The Man With the Iron Fists," in which he co-stars with Russell Crowe and blaxploitation icon Pam Grier.
