Lesbian actress and musician Leisha Hailey is accusing Southwest Airlines of "homophobic" behavior. The L Word star says the she was booted off a flight because she was kissing her girlfriend, Camila Grey.
"I have been discriminated against by @SouthwestAir. Flt. attendant said that it was a "family" airline and kissing was not ok," the actress shared on Twitter Monday afternoon.
According to her Twitter stream, the 40-year-old actress was in El Paso, Tex., visiting the family of her girlfriend, 32-year-old Grey (who is not only her romantic partner, but her fellow band member in the indie group Uh Huh Her).
"We were escorted off the plane for getting upset about the issue. @SouthwestAir endorses homophobic employees. No one made her accountable," Hailey twittered.
For their part, Southwest claims the couple was asked to tone down their PDA after other passengers complained.
"Initial reports indicate that we received several passenger complaints characterizing the behavior as excessive. Our crew, responsible for the comfort of all Customers on board, approached the passengers based solely on behavior and not gender," the airline said in a statement.
Regardless, Hailey is calling for a boycott: "Did I mention to @SouthwestAir that I have a lot of their actions recorded on audio and video? RT #boycottSouthwest #discrimination," she wrote her fans.
Of course, this isn't the first time the airline has found themselves in a celebrity controversy. Last year, director Kevin Smith was allegedly kicked off a Southwest flight for being overweight. So, is all publicity really good publicity?
