A collective gasp was heard from the crowd in the Dancing with the Stars studio last night, as Kirstie Alley and her partner Maksim Chmerkovskiy took a tumble while performing their rumba.
While the pair were dancing to "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" -- Alley's pick for her personal story routine -- Chmerkovskiy fell while holding the actress, sending her to the floor as well.
"My thigh just gave out. I'm so sorry. I'm so sorry," Chmerkovskiy said later. "It has nothing to do with her."
The couple were taking on an emotional dance, telling the story of Alley's move to Los Angeles and the sudden death of her mother, when they fell. Still, they managed to get back up and finish their routine, though both seemed to be in pain.
The judges seemed to be moved by the performance despite the fall, giving the pair 21 out of 30 points.
"Sometimes tragedy leads to an amazingly beautiful moment," Carrie Ann Inaba said, noting that after their tumble "something magical happened."
"You've overcome it," said Len Goodman. "You got up and dusted yourself off."
And ?Bruno Tonioli added, "You can't keep good talent down. Once you got up it was better than ever." ?
