Chris Colfer Learned About His 'Glee' Exit Via Twitter

Chris Colfer Learned About His 'Glee' Exit Via Twitter

It's been quite the interesting couple of days for Chris Colfer.

This morning, the Glee star got news that would be music to the ears of any TV actor when he was nominated for his second straight Emmy for his turn as Kurt Hummel on the hit FOX show. Sadly, that triumph came mere hours after the 21-year-old actor learned that Glee's upcoming third season will be his last. And that's not even the worst part: Apparently, Colfer found out about his exit via Twitter!

"Yesterday on Twitter," Colfer told Access Hollywood, when they asked how he'd been informed of Glee co-creator Ryan Murphy's announcement that his character and fellow classmates Rachel Berry (Lea Michele, 24) and Finn Hudson (Cory Monteith, 29) would be graduating at the end of season 3 -- and, thus, not returning for season 4. "Yeah, I found out that they made that announcement. I didn't necessarily know that it was going to be our last season next year, (but) I knew something like that was coming up eventually. I mean, we can't be there forever."

That's a bit different than what Murphy told The Hollywood Reporter yesterday, saying that Colfer and Michele -- but not Monteith -- were aware of his decision to write them off the show because they would be graduating seniors. "I involved Chris and Lea, and they thought that was a good idea," he said. "They both trust the writing and trust me and felt that it would be great to have an open and closed experience for them to go out while they were on top."

Sounds like Murphy may have talked to Michele and Colfer about his plans, but hadn't actually made anything official until yesterday. That would certainly jibe with their reactions. "I don't necessarily want to leave so soon, but I mean, it's fine. It's what it is. And all things come to an end," Colfer told Access Hollywood. He echoed that sentiment to Extra, saying that his departure will be bittersweet: "Do I want to leave the show? Absolutely not. This is home for me. But I understand that there's time for a conclusion."

Michele agrees. "We always knew we'd graduate in real time. It's all part of the plan and it's all good! It's going to make Season 3 amazing!!!" she tweeted earlier today. Then she added, "To Gleeks everywhere, you're in my heart now and forever. Love u all!!! This is just the beginning!!"

For three fine actor-singer-performers like Colfer, Michele and Monteith, that couldn't be more true.
