Phil Collins Is Not Retiring from Music

Phil Collins Is Not Retiring from Music

Update:  It looks like Phil Collins isn't giving up his music career just yet. Despite his recent comments to FHM, People.com confirmed Monday afternoon that he is not retiring.

"He is not, has no intention of, retiring," says his U.K rep.

Who knew music could be so dangerous?

Phil Collins says he's quitting the music biz, citing health problems caused by years of drumming. The Genesis drummer, singer and successful soloist -- with such hits as "You'll be in My Heart" from Tarzan, "Against All Odds," and "Two Hearts" -- says all that drumming caused medical problems including hearing loss, a dislocated vertebrae and nerve damage in his hands.

Though Collins, 60, has sold millions of albums, won seven Grammys and an Academy Award and regularly sold out arenas, he was not always a critical favorite; one album review, for example, said "both the music and his delivery are oddly dry and passionless."

Even Collins himself seems to think that he wasn't all that, telling FHM, "I'm sorry that it was all so successful. I honestly didn't mean it to happen like that. It's hardly surprising that people grew to hate me."

Collins also may not have endeared himself to fans with the way he ended one of his three marriages, by breaking up via fax. Currently divorced, Collins lives in Switzerland with two of his children.

But despite the bad vibes, certainly not everyone will be happy to see Collins go. After all, people aren't inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame for nothing. Maybe one day he'll end up coming back for "One More Night."
