Halle Berry may be taking her star to the small screen. The film star's name is attached to the new cable series Higher Learning, which is currently being shopped to HBO and Showtime. In the Dreamworks-produced show, the 44-year-old actress would play a college professor.
The Oscar winner has had a limited run in television work throughout her career. Berry's TV career consists of the 1980s Who's the Boss spinoff Living Dolls and a slew of episodes of the 1990s nighttime drama Knot's Landing. She has, however, appeared in the TV movies, including 2005 Oprah Winfrey-presented telepic Their Eyes Were Watching God and HBO's Introducing Dorothy Dandridge, for which she won both and Emmy and a Golden Globe.
Perhaps Berry's decision to take a television job has to do with her current custody battle with ex Gabriel Aubry. In late 2010 Aubry filed for custody of their now-3-year-old daughter Nahla, which reportedly sparked a bitter fight between the parents. Berry has had to drop out of a movie role and a Broadway show to deal with the custody issues and may be looking for a job with more stability for both her and her daughter.
In April, the actress said that she and Aubry were just trying to figure out what was best for Nahla and that there was no nastiness involved.
"When there's a child involved, it's a relief when you can resolve things in a good way," she said. "Our issues were never about fighting for her."
"We both know a child needs both her parents. But what I want to say about it is sometimes, as a couple, you reach an impasse," she explained. "We need a court and a judge to help us work out some of the delicate issues."
