Johnny Weir takes on Gaga and Katy P
Pop's reining queens, Lady Gaga and Katy Perry, had better hold onto the feathers ? both are soon to have some fierce competition on the charts, according to Skating With the Stars judge (and creative director to the pop icons) Laurieann Gibson. Seems her SWTS co-judge Johnny Weir intends to give the ladies a run for their outrageousness when he releases his first record next year. ?He played it to me and as creative director and choreographer to the stars - he has smash!? beamed Laurieann, who reveals she will be choreographing Johnny?s accompanying music video. ?He moves all the time, and he?s amazing,? she tells In Touch. ?He is an artist so this will be a different expression of him off the ice, and as a recording artist, he nailed it. The record is really smash!?
While fans of the outrageous Weir will have to wait till next year for season two of his LOGO reality show Be Good Johnny Weir, the Olympic champion is ecstatic about the song "Dirty Love," which he sings and wrote. ?The song is like Depeche Mode meets Lady Gaga and about the battle between telling people what they want to hear and of course doing what you want to do in the end.? While the finer points of the music video are top secret, Johnny admits, ?It?ll have sick dancing and Louis Vuittons out the wazoo -- just expect it.?
In addition to SWTS, Johnny is working on season two of his reality show, which will chronicle the lead up to his first live stage show ? a spectacular that will combining skating, song, actors, strippers and purple ponies. ?This is the first time I have done anything like this,? he says. ?I don?t fancy myself as a singer. I am just so excited and want people to boogie and to show them I can do things other than skate.?
According to Johnny, "Dirty Love" will be available on iTunes on January 11, but in the meantime, fans in Flint, Mich., will get a sneak peak of Johnny the performer this Saturday, December 11 (at the Perani Arena & Event Center), when he hits the stage for the very first time as a singer as part of the Holiday Dreams on Ice spectacular. ?We wanted to bring some sparkle to one of the hardest hit places in the country,? he reveals, ?And that?s where I?ll be test driving the song in a sheer black catsuit with lots of rhinestones and feathers.?
